This new category seems like a good idea - now I feel like I can post something! Two China blogs that I think are something special and aren't easily categorized are Fanfusuzi (mentioned before in another section) and Shenzhen Fieldnotes. Both are based in Shenzhen, the cultural captial of the good old PRC. Fanfusuzi is at fanfusuzi.mindsay.com/ and is apparently run by a Chinese named Du Yisa (the surname is common, but the personal name is not). It's very clever and often haunting, as others have said before. Should definitely win something. Shenzhen Fieldnotes is at maryannodonnell.livejournal.com/ and is run by a PhD named Mary Ann O'Donnell who apparently works as an English teacher in SZ (shows what a PhD will getcha). It's very academic but also personal, and she seems to know her Chinese. I've seen a number of other academic-type China blogs, but none like this one. She also takes good photos. And that's all I have to say about that. Oh, wait..... A pirate walks into a bar. The bartender can tell he's a pirate because he's got a black eyepatch, a parrot on his shoulder, a wooden leg below one knee, a black hat with skull & crossbones in the middle, and a steering wheel shoved down the front of his trousers. Although the bartender's a bit intimidated, he can't resist asking, "um, ah, excuse me sir. Were you aware you have a steering wheel shoved down the front of your pants?" At which point the pirate fixes his single eye on him, and replies without blinking "Aaaarr! It's driving me nuts!"
