The following is the current information on the, as of yet, unnamed blog awards. There are four Professional Blog Judges (PBJs) judging the nominations.
The judges include me, The Admiral (because I'm putting up the prize money).
The second judge, who accepted my nomination earlier, is none other than Sinosceptic.
I also invited Mr. Richard whom you may know from his Spa, Bar stool, Sauna, and Fishing Expedition advertising fame to be the third judge.
The 4th and Final PBJ is none other than Nausicca. Her insightful, sharp and witty posts can be found throughout the blogosphere.
And the awards will be:
Best China News Blog - Best blogging of current events, social issues, or other factual events. Think Peking Duck or The Crossbow Papers.
Best China Humor Blog - Best blogging that is focused on humor. Whether it be amusing anecdotes or rants or China in general. Like talktalkchina, but you know - funny.
Best China Visual Blog - Best photographic or video blogging. This does not have to contain original works, provided you have permission from the copyright holder...blah blah...legal mumbo jumbo...Take a look at Imagethief.
Best China Learning Blog - Best blogging on learning the Chinese Language. More like Sinosplice than Hanzismatter. Though both of those excellent sites could be nominated in this category.
Best China English Blog - Best blogging,in English, by a native Chinese (Mandarin) speaking person. We will check your ID!!!Creativity being the most important criteria here people, NOT GRAMMER OR SPELLNIG.
Best China Literary Post - Best individual blog post with original poetry or fiction writing about Living in China. This is just one post people. You could win serious bones for writing one little post!
Best China User Post - Best individual blog post by a person from one of the WINNING blogs above. The post will be nominated by the blog, and must have been posted BEFORE the blog won the award.
NEW AWARD - Best Blog in China - General blog. If none of the other categories fit, nominate your favorite here.
Judges will take into consideration, in addition to the specific criteria, general things such as posting frequency (infrequency), style, etc. Decisions by the judges will be final. In the event that there is a tie (4 PBJs), we'll play jiandao, nutsou, bu ; one on one, between the two pairs to decide, best of ten wins.
So that's seven awards to win, and there are REAL PRIZES PEOPLE.
First of all, all of the winning bloggers will be allowed to post either an original or reblog from their site on the bestbloginchina.blogsource.com site.
Secondly, each winning blogger will be allowed to display their "Trophy" image file on their blog, website, or tattoo on their body.(Better check with hanzismatter first though ifyou're thinking tattoo).
Lastly, each winning blogger will receive 1000 RMB, cash money!!! That's right,5 awards @ 1000RMB, now 6 awards @ 1000 and the two individual posts at 500 RMB is .lemme see, ..dit plus dot, carry the nought...uhhh??. almost 10,000 RMB in prize money. The other 4k RMB is for small awards (surprises for later).
I need to work out the details with the other PBJs, but basically nominations are open, votes are closed to the public. However I will insist that all nominations be considered, if not briefly.
The 1st Semi-Annual (Unnamed) Award will be announced October 1, 2006. Any and all blogs that have at least 60 days of "uptime", and are active on September 1, 2006 are eligble for nominations. Nominations will be closed on September 1, 2006 at midnight (Beijing Time)
Not kidding, really. Enjoy!
